How to stay safe on Luuk
Luuk Lock escrow is designed to protect every transaction by default — but scammers are creative. These tips will help you spot trouble before it starts.
Always pay through Luuk
Never pay outside the app — no bank transfer to a personal number, no sending cash, no PayPal, no crypto. Your payment is only protected by Luuk Lock when it goes through the in-app checkout.
Trust video, not just photos
A product video is harder to fake than a still photo. If a listing has no video, or the video doesn't clearly show the item's condition, ask the seller to upload one before you pay.
Verify before you confirm delivery
Inspect the item thoroughly before confirming delivery in the app. Once you confirm, payment is released to the seller and it becomes harder to dispute. Only confirm when you're satisfied.
Buying safely
Check the seller's profile and history
Look at completed orders, reviews, and how long the account has been active. Brand-new accounts with no history selling expensive items are higher risk — not impossible, but worth more scrutiny.
Read the description — not just the title
Look for specifics: condition, measurements, brand, model number. Vague listings ("fairly used phone, works fine") give you less grounds for a dispute if something is wrong.
Use Luuk's negotiation tool
If you want a lower price, use the in-app offer feature — not a private chat or WhatsApp message. In-app negotiations are recorded and binding, which protects both sides.
Never share your OTP or card PIN
No Luuk staff member or seller will ever ask for your OTP, card PIN, or full card number. If someone does — by phone, SMS, or message — it is a scam. Report it immediately.
Selling safely
Only ship after payment is confirmed in escrow
Wait for Luuk's "Payment Secured" notification before dispatching any item. This means the buyer's funds are in Luuk Lock escrow and will be released to you on confirmed delivery.
Upload real tracking information
Always upload a valid courier tracking number when you mark an order as shipped. This protects you if a buyer falsely claims non-delivery — the tracking record is your evidence.
Show the item's real condition in your video
Be honest about scratches, wear, or faults — show them clearly in your listing video. A buyer who knows what they're getting is far less likely to dispute on delivery.
Don't be pressured to deal off-platform
If a buyer asks you to move the deal to WhatsApp, share your personal account details, or take payment outside Luuk — decline. Off-platform deals are not protected by Luuk Lock.
Account security
Use a strong, unique password
Don't use the same password across multiple apps. A password manager makes this easy.
Never share your login details
Luuk will never ask for your password, BVN, or OTP by SMS, phone call, or in-app message. If you receive a request like this, it is fraudulent.
Log out on shared devices
If you use Luuk on a public or shared phone, log out when you're done.
